Criminal acts are acts or behaviors that threats public welfare or safety to a certain degree. According to criminal law, they are categorized in felonies, misdemeanors, inchoate offenses, and strict liability offenses.
A felony is a serious crime punishable by more than a year in prison or by death, some examples are murder, robbery, manslaughter, sodomy, larceny, arson, mayhem, and burglary. A misdemeanor is a less severe crime, that is punishable by less than 12 months in jail. Some other punishments might include doing community service, probation, and fines. Examples of this type of crime are assault, battery, false imprisonment, perjury, and intimidation of jurors.
