Answer :

Tom started with 47 cards.

He had 28 left. If his dog ate half then multiply 28 by 2

You get 56

Out of those 56 cards, 9 of them are new

So subtract 9 from 56

You get 47
Tom started with 47 cards

28+28=56

9 are new so 56 - 9 = 47 which is your answer
